An important consideration when supplementing CoQ10 is absorption. Under normal circumstances, there are three hurdles which reduce absorption of the bioactive form of this critical energy nutrient — intestinal absorption, cellular uptake, and mitochondrial utilization. Mold and mycotoxins further complicate absorption by compromising membrane fluidity, increasing oxidative stress, and affecting mitochondrial function. Mold exposure makes it even more important to deliver the reduced, ubiquinol form.

Alight’s CoQ Absorb was formulated with mold in mind by providing the ubiquinol form along with absorption enhancers. Trans-geranylgeraniol (GG) is naturally formed in the body as a precursor molecule to support endogenous CoQ10 synthesis. Since CoQ is normally made and used intracellularly, GG supports extracellular CoQ absorption across membranes to support natural CoQ10 function.
